Tour Itinerary

Arrival in Kathmandu, meet by our officer with warm welcome by Rudrakshya mala in the airport and transfer to hotel. Rest day at relax and free.

Sightseeing tour in Kathmandu: Pashupatinath Temple & Budhanilkantha Temple. Afternoon free for your trip preparation. Tour briefing in the Hotel meeting hall at evening along with down jacket distribution

After early breakfast, By 08.00 am transfer to the airport for your onward flight to Lhasa (3650m). Receive by guide at the airport and transfer to the hotel in Lhasa (70 km / 1 hr drive). Rest and relax.

Today rest day in Lhasa for acclimatization and sightseeing. After breakfast, visit around Potala Palace & Jokhang Temple. (Note: if anybody wish to visit inside monuments need to pay entry fees directly)

After breakfast, we set off our journey towards Shigatse (3950 m) by Bus (250 km / 3 hrs). Shigatse is the second largest city of Tibet. Check into hotel and lunch at decent Indian restaurant. Then, you can visit Tashilhunpo Monasteryand around market.

After breakfast, drive to Saga (4400m / 450 km / 7 hrs). The journey is scenic view with high passes, nomad villages, small towns or villages, lake view etc. Here you will meet our Nepali Sherpa Team in Saga who will assist us for our onward journey including Kitchen service. Dinner prepare by our team will be serve at hotel in Saga.

Drive, Saga to Chiu Gompa (4600m) via Mayum-La High Pass & driving around Lake Manasarovar – 9 hrs / 510 km. Hot pack lunch on the way and dinner at guesthouse in Chiugompa.

Morning, holy bath & puja in Lake Manasarovar & after lunch drive to Darchen (4700m) – 1 hr / 40 km. You can stroll around market in Darchen for acclimatization and shopping of any useful things for Kailash Kora or for Souvenir.

After breakfast, get pack lunch then drive to Yama Dwar (8 km / 30 min), do darshan of closest view of Mt. Kailash (south face) & then start trekking to Diraphuk (4950m) – 5-6 hrs / 14 km. Those who are not going for kora will stay back in hotel at Darchen.

Early morning wake up to have darshan of Golden Kailash on clear weather day. By the same time have early breakfast and start trekking from Diraphuk to Zuthulphuk (4850m) passing through Dolma La High Pass (5600m) & Gauri Kunda darshan – 9-10 hrs / 22 km.

Trek upto near Darchen (1.5 hrs / 07 km) and then drive to Darchen for breakfast and meet all group members, get hot pack lunch then continue drive towards Saga (4400m / 8 hrs / 490 km. Late evening reach at Saga and have dinner.

Back journey, drive to Shigatse from Saga – 450 km / 7 hrs.

After Breakfast Drive to Shigatse by journey. 250 km / 3 hrs. Evening reach Lhasa and overnight stay at hotel.

Physical Fitness Requirements

While the Adi Kailash Yatra from Dharchula is vehicle-supported (no multi-day trekking), pilgrims should be prepared for:

  • Altitudes up to 3,750 meters (12,300 ft) at Gaurikund viewpoint
  • Short walks (1–2 km) on uneven terrain at Parvati Sarovar & Nabhidhang
  • Sudden temperature drops (even in summer)

We recommend:

  • Light cardio exercise 3 weeks prior
  • Hydration & Diamox (consult doctor) for altitude sensitivity

Our itinerary includes built-in rest stops at Napalchu (2,900m) for safe acclimatization

Altitude Sickness Information

Altitude sickness (AMS) is a serious concern as the route reaches elevations above 5,600m. Understanding symptoms and prevention is vital.

  • Symptoms: headache, nausea, dizziness, and shortness of breath.
  • Acclimatization stops are built into the itinerary — do not skip them.
  • Stay hydrated and avoid alcohol at high altitude.
  • Diamox may be prescribed — consult your doctor before the trip.

Visa & Permit Information

As of January 2026, all pilgrims undertaking the Adi Kailash Yatra from Dharchula must obtain an Inner Line Permit (ILP) issued by the District Magistrate Office in Pithoragarh. Travel Dukaan handles end-to-end processing—no police verification needed for Indian citizens if applied 15+ days in advance. Required documents:

  • Valid Govt. ID (Aadhaar, Voter ID, or Passport)
  • 2 passport-sized photos
  • Completed ILP form (we provide)

He ideal window for Adi Kailash Yatra 2026 is May 15 to October 15, when mountain roads are clear and daytime temperatures range from 8°C to 22°C.

  • May–June: Clear skies, blooming rhododendrons; ideal for photography.
  • July–August: Monsoon brings landslides—avoid unless traveling with expert-guided groups (like ours with alternate routes).
  • September–October: Post-monsoon clarity; crisp air and stable trails—peak pilgrimage season.
